Recent technological progresses, especially in the field of autonomous systems, have enabled the design of mobile entities such as drones or robots that embed a variety of sensors and that have the capacity to communicate and interact with each other. These devices note only raise issues at the individual level (trajectory control, trim management, endurance, stabilization, etc.) but they also raise problems in the domain of distributed algorithms when considered as a group (communication, identity management, etc.) and especially when non favorable contexts are to be supported (possible loss of a device for instance).
The goal of the MUSE research group (Mobility, Ubiquity, Security) at LaBRI is to address these problems and target secured fleets/swarms of autonomous communicating mobile terminals. In this field, we obtained significant results in terms of modeling and characterization of algorithms and associated mobile applications. We have worked based on graph re-labeling models, which we extended to take into account the dynamic aspect of the environments we are interested in. Indeed, the topology of a network composed of this type of entities is subject to two types of dynamicity. Their movements not only constantly redefine the underlying communication graph, but it is also possible that entities appear or disappear at any time (accident, energy shortage, software failure, etc.). A more theoretical direction of our work consists in classifying these mobility contexts of in terms of graph theory – as of today our classification includes around twenty classes of dynamic graphs. We have built demonstrators and worked to achieve real deployments in cooperation with private companies (both small startups and large groups) and public bodies (DGA, Région Aquitaine, etc.).
