Meeting of the 12/09/2005
What has been done
- There is a OpenInventor Prototype (based on Coin3D) implemented during a summer internship at IPARLA. It contains a selection node for different NPR styles, for any kind of geometry that can be rendered by OpenGL. In practice, each rendering style is a OpenGL shader.
- The targetted platform is Magelan (1 engineer in Bordeaux) based on a local VRML/X3D parser.
What to do
- We need to integrated a node in Magellan for the rendering of 3D textures (classical OpenGL approach, 3D texture composed with a 1D texture, and proxy geometry like axis aligned quads). Options can be
- Bi-channel: 2 3D textures composed with a 2D texture
- A pixel shader that compute the gradient of the 3D texture and compose it with a 2D texture
- View-Aligned Hexagonal polygons, computed on a vertex shader
- We need a node for the extraction of view-dependant feature of a 3D volume (like iso-potential features).
