Titre | Sém LaBRI. Formal language theory inspired by natural language |
Résumé | Until the mid-1980s, fruitful interactions between formal
language theory and linguistics had been limited to the study of
context-free grammars during a brief period in the late 50s and
the early 60s. About 20 years ago, multiple context-free grammar
was introduced to overcome the difficulty of context-free
grammars to describe some natural language constructions. The
formalism of multiple context-free grammar is just as elegant and
natural as that of context-free grammar, and calls for thorough
mathematical investigations. I sketch some recent developments
and open problems in the theory of multiple context-free
grammars. |
