DESCRIPTION:On the verification of concurrent programs under weak consisten
cy and persistency\n\nConcurrent programs are running over data storage in
frastructures that in general do not guarantee strong consistency (where e
very update of the data storage structures is visible to all processes). T
he consistency model defines the possible orders in which different proces
ses can see updates issued by the program. These orders do not coincide wi
th the interleaving of behaviors executed in program order. This makes uni
ntuitive and very complex reasoning about program behaviors under weakly c
onsistent models. In addition\, some of the infrastructures include a mech
anism for making data persistent so that executions can be resumed upon cr
ashes from persistent states. Again\, the order in which data in the (vola
tile) memory is persisted does not necessarily coincide with the program o
rder. The persistency model defines the possible persistent states that ar
e observable when crashes happen. The combination of both aspects (visibil
ity of updates and their persistency) makes the verification of concurrent
programs quite challenging. We provide in this talk a high level presenta
tion of these aspects and of the issue of verifying programs in this conte
xt.\n\nThe talk is based on a joint work with Parosh Abdulla\, Mohamed Fao
 uzi Atig\, Narayan Kumar\, and Prakash Saivasan.\n\n\nImport automatique d
