{"id":39660,"date":"2018-02-20T11:01:17","date_gmt":"2018-02-20T11:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.labri.fr\/perso\/barla\/blog\/?p=39660"},"modified":"2018-02-20T12:08:39","modified_gmt":"2018-02-20T12:08:39","slug":"thinking-fast-and-slow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.labri.fr\/perso\/barla\/blog\/?p=39660","title":{"rendered":"Thinking, fast and slow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"top\" \/><em>by Daniel Kahneman<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>System 1<\/strong>: fast, intuitive, but error-prone.<br \/>\n<strong>System 2<\/strong>: slow and effortful, resort to cognition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Physiology<\/strong> gets affected: pupil dilation, stop walking as if the goal were to reduce input to system 1.<br \/>\n<strong>Fatigue<\/strong> inhibates system 2 as well, maybe even sadness ?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Flow: <\/strong>state in which attention is focused effortlessly<\/p>\n<p><strong>Priming: <\/strong>occurs inconsciously in system 1<\/p>\n<p><strong>Familiarity\/exposure: <\/strong>system 2 is lazy and leaves system 1 do the dirty work.<br \/>\nIt needs to be triggered, which occurs more easily in effortful situations.<\/p>\n<p>Need of <strong>causal history<\/strong>, which is imputable to system 1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Halo effect<\/strong>: system 1 seeks coherence in traits.<br \/>\nAntidote: separate judgements to decorelate errors !<\/p>\n<p><strong>WYSIATI<\/strong>: rely on poor\/insufficient information makes system 1 feel more confident.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mental shotgun: <\/strong>system 1 answers more questions that required, even substituting with simpler ones !<\/p>\n<p><strong>Law of small numbers:<\/strong> refers to the common failure to account for variability<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anchor effect:<\/strong> influences both systems 1 and 2, due to priming and insufficient adjustment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Availability bias: <\/strong>the ease with which examples come to mind affects jusdgements, a bias stronger in system 1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Less is more: <\/strong>adding information should lower probabilities, but plausibility makes system 1 act differently.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Regression to the mean: <\/strong>system 1 is hungry for causation, while system 2 fails to see an imperfect correlation<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outcome bias: <\/strong>rely on bad decusions that yielded good results out of sheer luck.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Valid expertise <\/strong>requires fast and clear feedback.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Theory-induced blindness: <\/strong>inability to notice the flaws of a theory once one got used to it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Regret <\/strong>is stronger when one has acted compared to when one has refrained.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reframing: <\/strong>restate positive outcomes as negative ones (and vice-versa) to avoir frame-bound actions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Daniel Kahneman System 1: fast, intuitive, but error-prone.
