There are thus properties of the shape (of its surface features, of the distribution of its volume) that are indicative of these transformations. [Mention papers by Roland and colleagues that studied this].

One needs to detect that original shape properties have been tampered with, then find a global transformation that could explain this tampering visible at multiple locations on an object. This might have many similarities with the perception of material properties, where the material may be seen to act as a filter: the overall appearance of reflections is here explained by a common transformation applied to them (say a blur). There might be some points in common indeed: one needs properties of the original shape to be sufficiently salient so that they can clearly appear in a deformed state afterwards. There might be some differences as well: the shape transformation might actually create surface features that were not there before, such as wrinkles, or folds for instance.

Bombastic lettering

Look at complex graffiti and design-ish fonts, the way they convey minimal shape and layout too!

Shape structure Synopsis: Comment on Kunsberg & Zucker papers on shape !
