First you push the object into the surface &#8211; you send it back in depth. Flesh or body shadow is integral to the \ufb01gure and expresses the particular qualities of the form. Cast shadow, on the other hand, does not belong to the \ufb01gure, but is imposed on the form. p.26<\/li>\n<li>Sculptural light. The light starts at the front of every form, then grows fainter as the form turns away from the light and recedes into darkness. Thus, the centers of the forms are brightly lit, while the edges turn away into shadow. p.32 <em>Sounds like a particular parametrization with user-specified &#8220;poles&#8221;<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Single-source light<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Simply stated, strong light means strong shadow, and weak light means weak shadow. p.34 [schema p.35]<\/li>\n<li>Atmospheric light. When the light is not vivid, strong or bright it takes on an aerial or atmospheric quality. Linear elements disappear. p.47 [schema]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Double-source light<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Double-source light is common in room interiors, corridors, and especially in studios where arti\ufb01cial lighting &#8211; such as \ufb02oodlights and spotlights &#8211; may be combined with re\ufb02ectors to manipulate direct and indirect light. p.50<\/li>\n<li>Incidental light. Such a drawing is no longer a mirror image of nature, but represents an ideal world of pure, unchanging, \ufb01nite form. p.82<\/li>\n<li>As each shape bulges outward, it receives more light ; as it curves back, it moves into shadow. See how the invented halo of light behind the left ear makes the form easier to read and the spots on the little cub curve with every form. p.82<\/li>\n<li>Let your eye roam over the lower leg and you will see how light and dark meet to make trentchlike borderlines between the forms. These intervals, the lighted centers of the forms, and the tonal dropoff of the dark edges, join forces to produce absolute clarity of form. p.84 <em>Could it be &#8220;polarly reversed&#8221; to reveal structure in cavities?<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Each form is rendered as a complete entity. A special characteristic of such shiny material is the presence of secondary, re\ufb02ected lights within the deep clefts of the wrinkles. p.115 <em>Shininess gives an additional DoF to create gradients that depict shape!<\/em><\/li>\n<li>A polished surface is slick and undisturbed ; thus, it is highly re\ufb02ective. But the woven surface of satin or silk, no matter how \ufb01ne the mesh, has an hairy and dusty look, and is less re\ufb02ective.
