I’ve had the privilege for some time of occasionally answering journalists’ questions about the impacts of AI on society, thanks to the Trustworthy AI Chair which has increased the visibility of these issues.
What a pleasure to answer Mathias Chaillot’s questions, a Science et Vie journalist, together with Jean-Gabriel Ganascia about the ethical and moral aspects of conversational agents! This interview, one of the richest and most carefully prepared I’ve been asked to give, is part of a Science et Vie special issue on AI published on October 15, 2025.
This special issue is essential in a field where you hear all sorts of things, compiled by serious, committed, and thorough journalists.
The nearly two-hour interview, presented over 7 pages, was truly fascinating. I can only recommend reading this issue of over 100 pages that covers the major technical and societal aspects of AI without ever giving in to sensationalism. It’s refreshing.
On a more personal note, what a pleasure to contribute to a magazine that shaped my formative years as a scientist (and that I still often buy before long trips!).
Many thanks as well to all the sponsors of the Trustworthy AI Chair (Bordeaux INP / University of Bordeaux / Bordeaux University Foundation) whose support has greatly contributed to addressing the ethical and moral questions in the recent development of my work on AI.
