About me

Short Biography

I was born in Santiago, Chili in 1990. I grew up in Geneva where I obtained my highschool diploma. During two years, I was hesitating whether to study computer science or psychology in Lausanne. I moved to Bordeaux in 2008 where I started a bachelor in computer science.

I had the opportunity to participate in the 2010 google AI challenge on planet wars. Despite my lack of experience in programming, I managed to rank first among french residents and 18th on the worldwide ranking. This was an amazing experience which allowed me to spend some time discussing on IRC with programmers and researcher who had significantly more experience than I had.

In july 2011, I first took part to the RoboCup with the Rhoban team as part of my summer internship. There, I was able to have a first glance at the complexity of autonomous robotics. In order to produce satisfying behaviors, we had to ensure that all the parts of our robot were working properly, from hardware to software.

From June to August 2012, I spent 3 months as a robotic technician at the International Exposition in Yeosu, South Korea. Since the exhibition was opened 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, the maintenance required constant supervision, fixing and improvement on motions in order to reduce the frequency of mechanical issues.

I performed my Master internship at KyuTech on visually guided grasping and object recognition. This was a particularly enlightning experience, both from a cultural and from a technical point of view.

I graduated both from Engineer School and University in 2014 and started my Ph.D. the same year. I spent one year as a visiting researcher at Waseda University, in Tokyo. This allowed me to discover an entirely different working environment.

I obtained my Ph.D. in Computer Science on November 27th 2017, after 38 months. Finally, I have been working at Université de Bordeaux as associate professor since 2018.
