TitreSém LaBRI. From Distributed Systems to Systems-of-Systems and Beyond: Challenges to Middleware
RésuméAs the complexity of distributed systems increases towards systems-of-systems, ultra large scale systems, cyber-physical systems, etc. there is of course the need to help the developers of such systems overcome many challenges, which range from: extreme heterogeneity of technology and environments, interoperability issues, and high levels of dynamicity. In this talk, I will present work from the Next Generation Middleware Group at Lancaster University, where we focus of dynamically adaptive middleware solutions for complex distributed systems. This will cover three broad areas. First, approaches for developing adaptive solutions; this will cover the work of OpenCom, a reflective component model for developing systems software, and the emerging field of Models@Runtime that offers higher-level abstractions to manage complex runtime adaptation. Second, the ideas of deep middleware to engineer middleware that can handle high levels of device and network heterogeneity. Thirdly and finally, I will present our work on interoperability that allows systems developed with different middleware to be composed together.
