Titre | Séminaire LaBRI, A few topics of investigation for video obtained from active cameras |
Résumé | Pan tilt zoom cameras are of frequent use in sport video and are increasingly popular in surveillance. They permit to actively track the targets with much
wider coverage than fixed cameras, focus on target's parts such as faces or objects, and, in their IP-based configuration, have low cost network infrastruc
ture.
However the use of these devices introduces new complexities and requirements in several classical problems of video analysis.
In particular, SIFT-based shape matching appears appropriate in that it exhibits invariance under rotation, translation and scale change. But in practical
applications its effective application depends on how much the thresholds used for matching adapt to the active camera observations.
In networked surveillance configurations with IP active cameras, due to the network lag, it is difficult to perform tracking from the analysis of the frames
of the active camera or acquire high resolution images without loosing camera calibration.
Using active cameras in surveillance applications permits to focus on target faces and therefore, at least in principle, more effective recognition. Due to
the increasing availability of three-dimensional face models, this drives the interest in face recognition based on 3D face models so as to improve the eff
ectiveness of face recognition systems.
We discuss these issues and the solutions that have been developed at Media Integration and Communication Center of the University of Florence.
