Resilience is the problem of finding the minimum number of tuples to delete from a database in order to turn a Boolean query from true to false. This is the Boolean version of the problem known as deletion propagation with source side-effects. A closely related problem is Responsibility, where we fix a tuple and look to determine its degree of influence on the query output. In this talk, I will define these problems more precisely and present known dichotomy results for the class of conjunctive queries without self-joins. I will also talk about the case involving self-joins, some preliminary results, and remaining open problems.
