Livre Aurélie Bugeau

Aurélie Bugeau is co-author of a book published in collaboration with Cambridge University, the Fitzwilliam Museum (Cambridge) and Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona).

The title of the book is “The Art of Inpainting”, Cambridge University Press, 2025.

Inpainting involves reconstructing damaged or missing areas of an image so that the final image looks natural. This virtual restoration has evolved from methods developed in the mathematics and computer vision communities, to the creation of tools commonly used by restorers and historians working in the worlds of fine art and cinema.  The collaborative book offers a comprehensive description of image inpainting methodologies, and is aimed at a wide audience with two levels of reading: the first provides a general, more conceptual description of the methods; the second offers the essential mathematical and computational details. The examples of tool use are drawn from the collections of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.
